Short for access control entry, ACE is a single item contained within an ACL that contains information about the user or group and the associated permissions. In many cases, a single ACL can contain multiple ACEs.
In general, activate is a term used to describe the process of making something operational. For example, the term product activation describes the process of activating a software program or game by using a serial number, product key, or other special ID number. The original concept of product activation was invented by Ric Richard, who filed patent US 5,490,216 describing the process.
Analog or analogue is an electronic communication sent as signals of varying frequency instead of ON or OFF like a digital data transmission. Analog allows equipment to handle information that continuously changes such as voltage, current, and wave. The picture is an example of an analog signal or how analog may be represented. In the example of a wave, it has a high and low value with numerous values in-between. With a digital wave, it would have a high or value with a nothing in-between.
A computer circuit that performs the logic functions AND, NAND, NOR, NOT, OR,XNOR, and XOR. In the picture below, is an example diagram and explanation of each of the types of logic gates. In the diagram, A and B are the input power sources and Y is the output power, 1 represents power (ON) and 0 indicates no power (OFF). Alternatively referred to as an antivirus software,AVS, antivir, or just AV. An antivirus program is a software utility designed to protect your computer or network against computer viruses. If and when a virus is detected, the computer displays a warning asking what action should be done, often giving the options to remove, ignore, or move the file to the vault.
An archive is a site or location that has a vast amount of information about a topic that can be downloaded or browsed. Archives can be used to research and learn more about the topic being discussed. For example, Computer Hope can be considered an archive of computer information.
Sometimes referred to as assembly or ASL,assembly language is a low-level programminglanguage used to interface with computer hardware. Assembly language uses structured commands as substitutions for numbers allowing humans to more easily read the code versus looking at binary. Although easier to read than binary, assembly language is a difficult language and is usually substituted for a higher language such as C. Below is an example of assembly language in a debug routine.
