Short for Graphical User Interface, a GUI (pronounced as either G-U-I or gooey) allows the use of icons or other visual indicators to interact with electronic devices, rather than using only text via the command line. For example, all versions of Microsoft Windows utilize a GUI, whereas MS-DOS does not. The GUI was first developed at Xerox PARC by Alan KayDouglas Engelbart, and a group of other researchers in 1981. Later, Apple introduced the Lisa computer, the first commercially available computer, on January 19, 1983.
Originally known as BackRub, Google is a search engine that started development in 1996 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page as a research project at Stanford University. Larry and Sergey decide the name of their search engine needs to change and decide upon Google, which is inspired from the term googol.

The domain google.com was later registered on September 15, 1997, and the company incorporated on September 4, 1998. The picture below is a capture of the site from The Internet Archive of what Google looked like in 1998.
Short for gigahertzGHz is a unit of measurement for alternating current (AC) or electromagnetic (EM) wave frequencies equal to 1,000,000,000 Hz.
2. When referring to a computer processor or CPUGHz is a clock frequency, also known as a clock rate or clock speed, representing a cycle of time. An oscillator circuit supplies a small amount of electricity to a crystal each second that is measured in KHz, MHz, or GHz. "Hz" is an abbreviation of Hertz, and "K" represents Kilo (thousand), "M" represents Mega (million), and "G" represents Giga (thousand million).

Alternatively referred to as GWPM, which is short for Gross Words Per MinuteGWAM is short forGross Words A Minute and is similar to WPMexcept it does not account for any errors. GWAM is the overall typing speed regardless of how many errors you make. GWAM is often used as a measurement for users who are just learning to type and is later replaced by WPM.
Alternatively referred to as a drawing tablet and pen tablet, a graphics tablet is a hardware input device that enables an artist to draw or sketch digitally using a pen or stylus. They are helpful because they provide a more natural and precise feel than a standard computermouse. The picture to the right shows an example of a Pen Graphics Tablet from Wacom.
The first graphics tablet for home computers was the KoalaPad. Developed by Koala Technologies in 1984, the KoalaPad was originally designed for use by the Apple II computer, but later was available for the IBM PC compatible computer as well.
Similar to an artist drawing with a pencil and paper, a user draws on the graphics tablet with a stylus. The computer will convert the drawing strokes into digital form, displaying them on the computer screen.
The graphics tablet can also be used to capture users' signatures. This use is similar to the signature pads found at many retail stores, where you would write your signature after using a credit card to make a purchase.
