ENGLISH PRACTICE QUESTIONS AND SELF STUDY PLAN for written exam of SBI JUNIOR ASSOCIATES (CLERK)/ SBI PO/IBPS PO/ IBPS CLERK/RRB PO/ RRB ASSISTANT( 30APRIL)

Dear Candidates,

Purpose : To prepare for written exam of SBI JUNIOR ASSOCIATES (CLERK)/  SBI PO/IBPS PO/ IBPS CLERK/RRB PO/ RRB ASSISTANT


To improve ENGLISH, it is necessary to read Grammar book daily. This will  help you to refresh all BASICS . Your speed and  accuracy will also improve.


So Spent one hour today  to  read chapter on following topics  from Grammar book.:

 Conversion of Simple sentences to Compound .


PRACTICE QUESTIONS:
  A Simple sentence can be converted into a Compound one by enlarging a word or a phrase into a Co-ordinate clause.
 Simple. -- He must work very hard to make up for the lost time. 
Compound. -- He must work very hard and make up for the lost time.
 Simple. -- To his eternal disgrace, he betrayed his country.
 Compound. -- He betrayed his country, and this was to his eternal disgrace. 
Simple. -- Besides robbing the poor child, he also murdered her.
 Compound. -- He not only robbed the poor child but also murdered her. 
Simple. -- He must work very hard to win the first prize. 
Compound. -- He must work very hard, or he will not win the first prize. 
Simple. -- He must not attempt to escape, on pain of death.
 Compound. -- He must not attempt to escape, or he will be put to death.
 Simple. -- Notwithstanding his hard work, he did not succeed.
 Compound. -- He worked hard, yet did not succeed. 
Simple. -- Owing lo ill-luck, he met with a bad accident on the eve of his examination. Compound. -- He was unlucky and therefore met with a bad accident on the eve of his examination.
 Simple. -- The teacher punished the boy for disobedience.

 Compound. -- The boy was disobedient, and so the teacher punished him.

Exercise   Rewrite the following Simple sentences as Compound (Double) ones:- 

1. In this tower sat the poet gazing on the sea. 
2. To everyone's surprise, the project completely failed. 
3. Seeing the rain coming on, we took shelter under a tree.
 4. Besides educating his nephew, he also set him up in business. 

5. The fog being very dense, the steamer sailed at less than half 


Suggestive Book :  To verify correctness of your answer  read the concerned chapter from high school Grammar book.


Further  you must read an English Newspaper today and encircle 20 difficult words . There after learn meaning of these words from dictionary. This will help you to build your word power gradually and you will be able to add about  600 new words every month to your vocabulary.
