As you can see in the picture of the Saitek Gamers' keyboard below, the function keys are lined along the top of the keyboard and labeled F1 through F12. These keys act as shortcuts, performing certain functions, like saving files or printing data. The function of these keys can differ by operating system and by software program.

Function keys locations

Below is an overview of a computer keyboard with the function keys (F1 through F12) highlighted in blue.
folder is a virtual location where programsfiles, and other folders can be located. Computers with an AppleMicrosoftWindows, or other GUI operating system have folders to help users store and organize their files and are accessed using a File Manager. The picture shows an example of what a folders with files looks like in Microsoft Windows.
Tip: If you are looking for a program folder, on Windows programs are installed into the program files folder.
Tip: When in a command line, folders are referred to as directories.
Alternatively referred to as a solidusvirgule, or whack, the forward slash is the name of the "/" character on the computer keyboard. Forward slashes most commonly used to describe a network address,URL's, and other addresses. For example, in the below Computer Hope URL the forward slash is used three times.

Endnote and Footnote

A term used to describe additional information found at the bottom of a page. Often a footnotewill contain the source of the information, or additional information about the text contained in the document. You can identify any text that points to a footnote by the small number after the text.
Floppy Disk Drive, also called FDD or FD for short, is a computer disk drive that enables a user to save data to removable diskettes. Although 8" disk drives were first made available in 1971, the first real disk drives used were the 5 1/4" floppy disk drives, which were later replaced with the 3 1/2" floppy disk drives.
A 5 1/4"floppy disk was capable of storing between 360KB and 1.2MB of data, and the 3 1/2" floppy disk was capable of storing between 360KB and 1.44MB of data. For both sizes of floppy disk, the amount of data that could be stored was dependent on whether the disk was single or double sided and whether the disk was regular or high density.
Today, due to their extremely limited capacity, computers no longer come equipped with floppy disk drives. This technology has largely been replaced with CD-RDVD-R, and flash drives.
A file is an object on a computer that stores datainformation, settings, or commands that are used with a computer program. In a graphical user interface (GUI) such as Microsoft Windows, files are shown as unique icons that relate to the program that opens the file. For example, the picture is an icon associated with Adobe Acrobat PDF files. If this file was on your computer, double-clickingthe icon in Windows would open that file in Adobe Acrobat or the PDF reader installed on the computer.
Short for FunctionFn is a key (shown below) found on the bottom left-hand portion of most laptop keyboards. As the name indicates, it is used to perform special functions on a laptop such as turning up the brightness or contrast, switching video modes, or printing a screenshot.
Alternatively referred to as a floppy or floppy disk, a floppy diskette was first created in 1967by IBM as an alternative to buying hard drives that were extremely expensive at the time.
