Worked on change in governance of PSU banks via variety of ways.
Completed first phase of PSU bank transformation agenda. Govt worked closely with @RBI on asset quality review.
Govt now has a good sense of stressed assets post consultations with RBI.
2nd phase of transformation agenda was asset quality review by RBI.
Difficult to compete unless PSU banks operate on commercial basis.
GyanSangam 2.0 will look at all aspects of transformation including consolidation.
Stressed assets including recast assets of PSU banks at about 11% of advances.
Asset quality review with RBI looked at system-wide stressed assets of bks, NBFCs.
First criteria on bank recap is to look at capital adequacy of banks.
Second criteria on bank recap is to look at performance of banks. Third criteria is to look at growth of banks.
RBI Advisor: RBI might stick to timetable as April Policy not too far & has room to cut rates right away.
